What's onThis week in Venice
Your trusted, one‑stop guide to Venice
Venice stands on its islands in the lagoon, cut through by the Grand Canal: San Marco and Castello, Cannaregio and its fondamente, San Polo and the Rialto, Dorsoduro and its museums, the Giudecca across the water, and out in the lagoon Murano, Burano, Torcello and the Lido. Here are the palace hotels and the 2026 MICHELIN stars, the cafés and the bacari, the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, La Fenice and the Biennale, the boats that take you everywhere, and day trips to Verona, Padua, the Dolomites and the Prosecco hills. We’ve checked every listing against the venue’s own website or an official source, and we leave out anything we can’t confirm.
In depth
Venice and its lagoon
A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987: how the city and its islands came together on the water.
Read the storyVenice by sestiere and island
From San Marco to the Lido, each sestiere and island has its own guide: the piazza and the Fenice, Dorsoduro’s museums, the Rialto, Cannaregio’s canals, the Riva, the Giudecca and the lagoon.
On foot
Venice is a city for walking: keep to the right on the bridges, and let yourself get a little lost between the campi.
Plan your trip
The practical things to know before you go: the access fee, the boats, tickets for the big sights, and three days for a classic first visit.
Our advice
Check the access-fee days before you come
On set days, day visitors pay an access fee and overnight guests register for an exemption. The year’s days are on the City of Venice’s official page; never pay a third-party site. Venice essentials
Beyond Venice
Verona, Padua, the Dolomites and the Prosecco hills: Roman opera, Giotto, the pale mountains and the vineyards of Valdobbiadene, all within reach.
Our advice
Go to the islands early
Take the waterbus to Torcello first, before the crowds, then Burano for lunch and Murano on the way back. The islands guide

The lagoon, the city of art, eating, the grand hotels, rail and where to buy: the stories behind the city.
At the bacaro
Order an ombra, a small glass of wine, and a few cicchetti at the counter: it is how Venice has its aperitivo.
